2010 Vuelta a España

Today is the start of the 65th edition of the Vuelta a España (75th anniversary). It commences with a 13 km night time team time trail in Sevilla. This will be Dominik's second time racing the Veulta. Last year's highlight for Dom was getting 3rd place during stage 15. Dominik was very aggressive and rode in the break during several other stages. For the past several years Dominik has had great performances in the fall season, this fall should be no different.

Niki Terpstra and Markus Fothen will be leading Team Milram for this years Veulta.

Stage 4: Tychy - Cieszyn 177.9km

Roy Sentjens and Paul Voß (Team Milram) moved into the top ten in the overall classification by placing 13th and 28th respectively, four seconds behind stage winner Mirco Lorenzetto (Ita) of Lampre-Farnese Vini.

Tomorrow's 149.0 km stage 5 will definitely bring out who will be in contention to win the Tour of Pologne. Check out the very lumpy profile here. There is a 17.2 km circuit, that has a 9.8 km, 3.3% ascent. Not very steep, but sure to become tiring at the very fast speeds they will be climbing. After completing the circuits the stage finished with a 12.4 km climb of 3.7%. The final 4.5 kilometers is 7.0% grade, and becomes lest steep over the last kilometer (5.8%). It will probably take the lead riders about 17 to 22 minutes to finish the last 4.5 kilometers of the stage, so it it will be a lung busting finish for all in contention.

Stage 3: Sosnowiec - Katowice 122.1km

Yauheni Hutarovich from Francaise des Jeux won stage 3 of the Tour de Pologne, in what was a very fast finish. Milram's sprinter Robert Förster got pinched into the barriers and was unable to move into a good position yet finished 8th. Dominik finished in the main field.

Tomorrow's 177.9 km stage slowly climbs over the first 80 km and then over next 52 km there are three climbs: 10 km at about 3.5% grade, followed by 6 km climb, and then another 10 km climb at about 3.5%. Then the course descends fast over the next 10 km and continues slowly descending over the the next 20 km on the way in the the final 6.8 km circuit (3x) in Cieszyn. The final kilometer rises with average of a 2% grade. There a easy right hand turn just before last kilometer, followed by another sharp right and turn at about 400 m to go and then a sharp left hand turn with about 75 m to go. There is a good chance tomorrow will finish with a breakaway so it will be the rider that still has the legs to do a double kick sprint that will take the win.
