Stage Win in Emmen for Team Milram!

What an awesome day for Dominik, Gerald, and Team Milram!

Dom went from the gun and immediately a 5 man group formed. He was mentioned numerous times during the coverage by Universal Sports (watch the stage online if you missed it at universalsports.com). The break was caught with ~21 km to go (~150 km breakaway), with the peloton finally catching Lieuwe Westra (Vacansoleil) as they entered Emmen. Lieuwe Westra (Vacansoleil) was riding in the break in honor of his father who had just passed during the week prior to the start of La Vuelta.

Columbia, Garmin-Slipstream and Quickstep worked to set up their sprinters in the closing kilometers. While Gerald smartly held about 10th position as the leadout riders labored at the front along the right side of the road. Gerald was the first rider to began his sprint with his signature head-bob coming from the left side of the field, and as he took the front, the other sprinters moved around to where Gerald was now at the center of the field. Fabio Sabatini (Liquigas, former Milram rider) and Roger Hammond (Cervelo TestTeam)worked hard to surpass Gerald Ciolack, but Gerald proved to be man of the hour today.

Way to go! Gerald, Dom, and Team Milram!

-Danny

Dom said tomorrow's stage will be a windy and difficult. Gerald Ciolek (GER) of Team Milram will likely be giving it a go tomorrow. Tom Boonen and Tyler Farrar's strong finish today indicate they have arrived at La Vuelta with good form. Gerald Ciolek also has recently finished third place in Vattenfall Cyclassics, just behind Tyler Farrar, who had won the race. So tomorrow's finish should be exciting.
