Dauphiné Libéré Race Update

In Yesterday's stage, the 154 km race finished on the infamous Le Mont Ventoux (map and profile). Alejandro Valverde Belmonte (Caisse d'Epargne) attacked about 9 km before the finish and placed 2nd behind Sylvester Szmyd (Liquigas), and moved into the overall lead. Cadel Evans (Silence - Lotto) the previous G.C. leader is now +16 sec, and third in G.C. was Alberto Contador Velasco (Astana). Christian Knees was the top placed rider in the G.C. (18th) for Team Milram at +6.41. Dominik finished the day less than a minute behind the first large group (+17.56).

Today's 106 km stage from Gap to Briançon featured the climb, Izoard (map and profile). Check out Team Milram's report on today's race. The G.C remains unchanged from yesterday and Pierrick Fédrigo (BBox Bouygues Telecom) won the stage. Dominik said that, the peloton "Set a steady peace into the climb and I tried to hang on to the pack as long as possible and when I got dropped I still kept up a decent pace."

Tomorrow will be the last Mountain stage of the Dauphine, starting with climbing the Col du Galibier (hors catégorie) followed by a long descent, and then ascending the Col de la Croix de Fer (hors catégorie), another descent, and finishing with Saint-Fraincois-Longchamp (catégorie 1) (map and profile).

Dom says,

"Tomorrow is gonna be brutal, but after today I'm even looking forward to it a bit... it's gonna be an epic ride..."

Ciao

Danny
